Monsterous Art and Design
by Rex
Hi, I'm Rex! (he/they)I'm a disabled, queer, trans masc Jack of All Trades: primarily I'm a digital character artist, but also an amateur wordsmith & poet, and starting to explore digital 2D animation as well.I have a BSc in Animal Biology, and I love using real science in my inspiration and thought process when designing creatures and the ecosystems they thrive in: from wild animals and speculative paleobiology, to mythical beasts, horrific monsters and things beyond our ken.Check out the links above to find me and my work across the web, including my Redbubble Store and my Picarto channel where you can watch me work live! For commission information and terms of service, click the links below! You can also browse my open commission form at my page on Artistree

Commission Info
IMPORTANT NOTICE:As of today (20/03/2023) I will no longer be offering sketch commissions to unknown parties without a strong watermark or written contract that stipulates that my sketch will not be stolen or "finished" using Stable Diffusion or any other AI programs in order to avoid paying full price for a coloured commission.Personal friends and trusted customers may still in future be able to request these, and may be approved on a case-by-case basis after inquiry- Commission Guide below will be updated in the future to reflect this development.
Thank you so much for considering me for your comission! Please make sure to read the Terms of Service page before inquiring, as it contains important information that may be relevant to your work's requirements.

Turnaround Time Note: Due to my disability and other factors such as my workspace being in progress, I may have a slower turnaround time compared to other artists. This is reflected in my prices.I aim to finish projects within 4-12 weeks of first payment, baring any emergencies or flare ups, with more complex work being on the longer end.In light of this, I try to reach out to customers with regular updates on progress or potential delays, and all commissioners are given access to a Trello board to watch their artwork developing from start to finish!
Terms of Service
Please carefully read each of the terms listed below- by making an order or requesting a quote, you are agreeing to abide to these Terms of Service. Please especially note the section on PayPal Chargebacks, if you are intending to pay through PayPal.
Section | Terms |
---|---|
01 - General Terms | Prices are subject to change based on demand. The price for your commission will be locked in when you receive your quote, and will not change during production. I reserve the right to reject any order for any reason, at my discretion. I operate with a zero tolerance policy for harassment, guilt tripping/shaming, or stalking for any reason including excessive update inquiries, rejected commission requests, begging for free art, et cetera. Respectful progress inquiries and constructive feedback on your work are welcome- abuse is not. I will NOT draw or depict any of the following: Rape and sexual violence Sexual content involving children or underage characters (Lolicon, Shota, Cub etc.) Hate speech or bigotry of any kind, including but not limited to: homophobic or transphobic tropes, racist stereotypes, antisemitism, positive or idealised depictions of fascist or Nazi propaganda or paraphrenalia, et cetera. Orders for work depicting any of the above will result in the immediate rejection of any commission orders you have made, and I will blacklist you from all future commission openings. |
02 - Payment | My prices are listed in British Pound Sterling (GBP) and can be paid through PayPal, Ko-fi, or direct bank transfer. If you use another currency, please let me know in your inquiry e-mail, and I will calculate your price based on the current conversion rate. At this time, artistree.io only accepts payments in USD, and my prices are listed in USD there, adjusted to be roughly in line with the current exchange rate. Due to the economic climate, these prices are subject to changing rapidly. When in doubt, please refer to my Price Guide Commissions can be paid either 100% upfront, or split into two- 50% upfront and 50% after the first draft sketch approval. Do NOT send any payments before I have expressly agreed to give you a slot, sent you an invoice, and requested for you to send me the payment. |
03 - Process & Delivery | The time it takes to finish your commission may vary anywhere between two (2) weeks to three (3) months, depending on factors such as health, the complexity of the commissioned piece, and my overall workload. Once the commission is finished and paid in full, you will receive the full-resolution .png image via email and/or artistree.io. Please note that I do not offer physical copies of any digital artwork at this time. This may be subject to change in future, and may include a charge to cover postage and materials (paper, printer ink, laminate etc.) |
04 - Revisions | I offer revision opportunities after every draft stage of production, usually totalling 3, and this service is included in the price. A fee will be added if alterations are requested on the finished piece, unless I have drastically misunderstood your instructions or an honest mistake has been made, in which case I may offer further alteration free of charge. This is offered at my discretion. In cases where artistic freedom has been granted, I will usually offer multiple versions of a design element for you to review and choose from. Please ask ahead of time or during these opportunities if you would like to see multiple versions of a feature, such as composition, colour swatches etc. If a significant change to design elements is later requested after it has previously been approved by you, that requires extra hours of labours to alter, a fee may be charged to cover my additional time, based on an hourly wage. To avoid this, please try to be as clear and detailed in your descriptions, reference images, moodboards etc as soon as possible, preferably before the sketch stage. |
05 - Copyright & Usage | **I, "DIREBEASTREX" (the artist): ** I reserve the right to cancel and refund the order at any time, for any reason at my own discretion. I retain the copyright over the commissioned artwork itself. I will NOT claim the intellectual property (IP) of the commissioned artwork (you and any other parties with valid claims will retain the rights to any characters or IPs featured, etc). I will NOT attempt to profit further from the commissioned artwork unless you (the customer) give your express written permission for me to do so. In the event I wish to include your commissioned work in solely profitable ventures such as merchandise or other works, I will make an offer to purchase the rights to commercial use from you, at your own consent, discretion and terms. I reserve the right to post the commissioned artwork online as a part of my portfolio, and include any elements of the artwork as part of future publications, such as art books, zines, live streams, videos, miscellaneous media, etc. As a courtesy, I will attempt to contact you for advisement before inclusion in for-sale media and products such as art books or zines, but where contact cannot be re-established, this right comes into effect. I reserve this right soley in the interests of being able to preserve, archive, and showcase my own work. You (the customer/commissioner): You may upload the commissioned artwork on any website or social media platform, or use the artwork as a banner or avatar anywhere online. It is humbly requested that a link is provided back to my card [direbeastrex.carrd.co] where possible. You may NOT make profits from the commissioned piece. This includes: - Reselling, - Redistributing, - Uploading to Pay-On-Demand services, - Making prints for selling, Or any use on financially gainful products or visuals such as: - Promotional material, - Journalistic print, - Live streams or videos, Or any other media that is in any way monetized to you or any other person, or any other indirectly gainful way not excluded from these terms. You may NOT alter the commissioned artwork without my (the artist's) consent, outside of small, non-destructive alterations. Non-destructive alterations here may include: cropping the image for the purposes of use in avatars, banners, moodboards, reference sheets, character profiles, etc, or the addition of censor bars, humorous “stickers”, filters and meme-formats. These are considered parody or transformative and thus are covered under fair use. You may NOT alter, disguise, obscure or crop out the artist’s signature when posting or distributing the otherwise full and complete image for the express purpose of its removal or obfuscation, outside of the cases of incidental exclusion of the signature in the above cases, wherein it would otherwise be considered collateral of fair use. You retain the rights to any intellectual property (IP) you own; likewise, any other involved parties maintain their rights to any IP featured in the artwork. Unless specifically granted consent by the artist, You may NOT use the commissioned artwork for any commercial purposes. **The following is considered copyright infringement: ** - Claiming the artwork as your own work. - Altering the artwork without my consent, including but not limited to the use of AI programs (including but not limited to Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, DALL-E, etc.) - Reproducing/using the copyrighted artwork commercially. You may purchase the rights to use the artwork commercially/for your own financial gain at any point during production or after the commission is finished for a fee that reflects the scope and potential impact of the intended use. Please contact the artist to make this arrangement as soon as possible if this is required, ideally before any plans or projects you intend to use it in are finalised. |
06 - Cancellation & Refund Policy | After the first draft/revision stage is reached, you are no longer entitled to a full refund, and I retain the right to keep the Kill Fee to cover my time and labour already spent on the artwork. The “Kill Fee” for cancelling a commission after substantial work (at minimum, after the first draft/revision stage) has begun is 50% of the commission's price. This is the 50% that is usually paid upfront before work begins, and is retained by the artist in the event that a commission is cancelled or a buyer does not follow through with payment after work is complete. When a cancellation is requested, you will receive the work at the current state of progress I have reached, with all aforementioned rights maintained. - If you have paid only 50% of the work upfront, no money will be refunded, but as all work on the commission will cease, no further amount will be charged. - If you have paid 100% of the price upfront, you will be issued a refund of 50% of the price of the commission, and the Kill Fee will be retained to cover the time and labour already spent on the project. If for any reason I am unable to start your commission, you will be notified as soon as possible and receive a full refund. Likewise, if I am unable to continue working on your commission after work has already begun, I will notify you as soon as possible, and issue a refund approximate to the value of the amount of work left to complete (usually 75%, 50% or 25% of the total price.) - You will receive a copy of the work at whatever stage of completion I could reach, along with any unfinished progress preserved in the form of a .psd file. - On this condition, I will usually release the right to alteration to you in order for another artist to finish the work, if this is desired- otherwise, I will always retain a copy of the in progress piece, such that if and when I am able to, I can finish the work at your discretion. If you need to cancel your order before any work begins, please notify me as soon as possible, and you will be issued a full refund. If you do qualify for any amount of refund, please contact me immediately, and I will personally return the money to the account that the payment originated from. If you are dissatisfied at any point with your commission, please contact me directly as soon as possible, and I will do my best to negotiate with you on a solution that suits all involved parties. |
Regarding Paypal Chargebacks: | Please do NOT request a Paypal chargeback under any circumstances. These are extremely damaging and costly to independent artists, and create more problems than they solve. Please see the above for alternative solutions to requesting a chargeback, and contact me ASAP if you wish to appeal for a refund. If you request a Paypal chargeback at any point, especially when you do not qualify for a refund, you forfeit all aforementioned rights in this document (except the rights to any IP featured) to the commissioned piece, and I reserve the right to profit further from it in any way to recoup the subsequent loss of revenue. In the event of a chargeback, I will decline it, and immediately supply Paypal with logs of our communications, a copy of the commissioned work, and a copy of these terms of service as evidence that I have rightfully completed work for you under these prior agreed terms. Furthermore, you will be blacklisted from ordering any commissions from me in future. |
